Autumn In Hill Country

image

I’m back with a new finished quilt.

You saw this one earlier in progress.

Hope you are starting to see some of these colors in your surroundings.

This is the 431st quilt I have finished.

I have not been sharing each and everyone as I have been VERY busy finishing quilts.

It’s a good feeling to make progress, even though there is  more to do soon.

Ice Dyed Tapestry–Yet Another Finish

image

This is a recent finish. I am keeping busy finishing these pieces I created in the last year.

Each one is unique. Finishing them is very time consuming but I will get them all finished.

Because I have been so busy finishing these and other pieces I have not been blogging as often as usual.

It’s all about priorities and deadlines!

A Treasure Hunt For Cooper

My youngest grandson admired something I had made for someone else.

He really loved it and “commissioned” me to make one for him……although he didn’t know he had commissioned one.

He told me his favorite colors and I used them to create this TREASURE!

image

Each clue was in a green envelope Here he found the first clue hidden by one of his favorite things here…..the COW!

Some of the pictures are not too clear as some areas where the clues were were not well lit.

image

Next he was directed to the area where we keep the board games, etc.

image

Then he was directed to the Watermelon basket where I keep treasures to pick when he visits. This time he found a green envelope with the next clue.

image

Time to find his favorite Sprecher’s Root Beer with another green envelope.

image

Then into the living room where his envelope was hiding under the pillow that had beads on it.

image

The bedroom where he would sleep if he stayed overnight!

image

The final clue was on Grandma Kay’s favorite sewing machine!

image

The final clue directed him to my oldest sewing machine. That one was the hardest as I don’t think he even knew about my treadle machine.

I had to give his some clues: SINGER and Red and White.

He got the bag and took it downstairs to open it in front of Dad!

image

He’s starting to open it and is very interested.

image

It’s pretty obvious how much he loved it. It never left his hands until he put it in the bag to go home.

image

This is a view of the entire throw. I love creating these and making the colors flow throughout the entire piece.

This one was so much fun I finished it in record time.
It’s a great way to use up small amounts of yarn, orphan balls and of course I have to find colors within my collection to blend everything together.

Years ago when I finished arranging my yarn by color in my post office sorting desk his dad walked in and said “And when are you going to start knitting Mom?”

Well I have been knitting and even have some empty space in my cabinets.

I have a feeling that when the weather changes the next one will be for me!

Another Ice Tapestry Is Finished

image

This is larger than the two I shared yesterday and it took a lot more time to get it perfect.

I’m thrilled with how well it worked.

Stay tuned as I share more as I finish them.

You can sign up with your email on my blog and you will be notified each time I make a new post.

Ice Dyed Tapestries–First Finishes

I am working very intensely finishing the pieces I have dyed recently.

Each one takes a long time to finish as these need to be perfect.

image

This was the first finish and I am pleased with it. It makes me think of Monet’s Garden.

image

This was my first successful attempt creating a blue and brown piece. Even though I may start with the dyes I think will produce a specific coloration that isn’t always the case.

So much of what happens is serendipitous.

Yet I do have to know how to use colors as I choose what I attempt to create.

I can’t say there have been any real failures, although some are more exciting than others.

Chasing Rainbows 3–The Entire Quilt

image

I am so pleased with the way the colors flowed in this piece. Each one I make has called for a different way to use color to enhance the underlying fabric.

image

The backing I chose turned out to be a great choice picking up so many of the colors from the front of the quilt and adding a touch of fun.

Chasing Rainbows–View Of The Top

image

After sewing the middle section with it’s warm colors today’s view with the cool colors on the top are the perfect finish.

The satin stitching is done.

Now it is time to finish this with a backing, binding and casing.

Chasing Rainbows–Middle Section

It is so exciting to see how the colors are working as I choose them for their relationship to the hand dyed fabric.

image

This section is so much warmer than the lower section.
Art is more effective when there is contrast and movement between the parts.

Chasing Rainbows

I love to create with color progressions or color flow.

I also love do to satin stitching.

image

This will be my third Chasing Rainbows quilt. They are so much fun to create.

I chose colors in different ways for each one.

It is like reading a good book…..I don’t want to stop until I see what happens next.

Heidi and Nate’s Wedding

I love this picture of them. You can see how happy they both are. I don’t think they stopped smiling through the entire wedding and reception.

image

Here they are entering the reception where we were all waiting.

It was a beautiful wedding and gorgeous reception.

I hope to post more pictures soon.

Watching My Quilt Seeds Grow!

image
My quilt seeds are growing into something colorful and meaningful.
They still need to be pruned and shaped for a better landscape, much like the shrubs in our yard!
