Negative Positive Game Quilt

Knowing that our quilt group had just a few people in attendance the Wednesday before Thanksgiving I came up with an idea to boost attendance in 2014.

It worked as we had a lot of people come.

Of course I had to do some preparation to share this idea/technique. I did make up all the squares and fused squares everyone used.

While watching TV I did some cutting of images to use on the squares. I did get a little carried away.

I had enough to do this quilt which is 7 squares by 8 squares.

Can you find the blocks with the matching images?

Sometimes using a different background can make it next to impossible to see that they are done with the same image.

The quilt is finished and has a top and bottom rod pocket so it will hang straight.

It’s really a fun technique to do and I couldn’t stop until it was finished.

My Negative Positive Squares Quilt

Before I shared this technique with our quilt group members I played with the idea myself again so I would have something to show them.

I got a little carried away and cut almost all of these during a one hour TV show and cut a few more after the mini demo.

When I counted the ones I had made there were 56 so that was a good stopping point as I could make a quilt 7 x 8 squares.

The colors are not real accurate in this photo as I took it at night inside.

When I get it finished I’ll take the photo outside.

Some of them are easy to spot and others are not.

The different backgrounds can make two similar squares look totally different.

Quilt Group Mini Lesson

On the Wednesday before Thanksgiving our quilt group has usually had only 5-8 people attend.

I came up with an idea to hopefully get more people to be there.

These are a few of the 40 people who were there.

This is another view of the blocks the participants created.

I had prepared 4 1/2 inch squares for people to work with.

Some of them had Wonder Under on the back and others did not.

Using one of the WU backed squares and cutting it into strips or some other shape, and fusing it to two different background squares participants were able to create two blocks that gave a totally different design.

Everyone enjoyed the exercise and they now can use the idea in their own work.

When It Is Cold I Turn On The Iron!

I found a lot of 4 inch squares in my scrap bin.

I know I didn’t cut them myself.

If I am not mistaken my granddaughters that I called the “Glamour Girls” decided to each make a quilt and use some of the same fabrics.

They picked fabrics, cut squares and that’s as far as they got. That was at least 10 years ago!

I have a feeling that this is not all of them. I expect to find more of them somewhere!

I fused all of these to Wonder Under and they will be the some of the seeds friends can use to create a fused work of art.

This picture shows the two of them in Eagle River when the family used to vacation there. I would guess they were about 7 years old. We did stamping on T shirts as a rainy day project that year and they made their T shirts as similar as possible.

In this picture, taken in my studio,  they are much younger. When the family was together you could always find the two of them doing something together.

They used to write stories with pen names and create the characters which were usually young women who had interesting lives.

I don’t think I have any of those to share anymore and they are probably happy I don’t!
