Felting Knitted Containers

It has been a while since I knitted quite a few knitted containers to be felted.

This week I spent two days felting all of them. I was very pleased with the results.

In this picture you see the brown bowl in a vignette.

This is a closeup of the bowl. Each yarn felts slightly differently so it is always a surprise.

I will be sharing more of my results.

The Vest Became a Quilt

One of my current quilting projects is making quilts from some of my wearable art.

This quilt used to be a vest. This is the first of the 12 pieces of wearable art I am repurposing as a quilt.

I no longer do style shows so I selected these pieces that would make interesting quilts.

Stay tuned to future blog posts as there will be more.

Another Special Vest Designed For NSQG Trip To Paducah

Many groups and guilds who attend large quilt conferences have a special piece of clothing they all wear.

I designed this vest for the Northwest Suburban Quilt Guild for their members who attended the Paducah Show years ago. It incorporates the NSQG Logo and the Dogwood that blooms in Paducah.

I have also used my vest to hold all my quilters pins.

The back of the vest also incorporates the NSQG logo and the Paducah Dogwood.

I quilted my vest by hand.

Jinny Beyer Hilton Head Seminar Sigature Vest

I attended the Jinny Beyer Quilting Seminar on Hilton Head Island from the second year through many more years.

I created this blank vest in 1987 and had everyone sign it.

This is the back of the vest and I also had people who were on it add a year if they returned in 1988 or 1999.

It was a fun project and I enjoy looking back at the names and remembering the friends I made and many I still keep in touch with.

What Happened To The Green Bay Packer Socks I Was Knitting?

I started to knit these socks and the yarn and the gauge didn't work together so I put them aside.

My sewing light has a magnifier as part of it. It is dangerous to have a magnifier where the sun can shine on it as it could cause a fire. I added some more simple stitches and now I have a Green Bay Packer magnifier cover.

My Latest Silk Quilt Is Finished

I am happy to have finished another one of my Olympic Quilts even though it is after the closing ceremony.

I love, love, love the way silk takes color.

The background fabric is one I used in a jacket and the other fabrics came from a bag of hand painted silk I got from Joe Sherman ties in Chicago.

I debated on what edge finish to use and I'm very happy with the zigzag over edge finish.

There Is Always A Place To Hang A Long Skinny Quilt

This is a quilt with little quilts on it. It will also have some of my polymer clay work added.
I can think of so many spaces this could hang in.

Another Garment Will Become a Quilt

This garment is a perfect choice to become a quilt. Stay tuned as it could take a while.

I have a lot of pieces of my wearable art that are becoming quilts.

Creating Quilts From Wearable Art

My newest activity is creating quilts from Wearable Art from my style show.
I no longer give style shows and many of these garments will make great small quilts.
I am still in the process of taking thing apart so you may not see finished quilts for a while.

These 3 Quilts Each Received An Olympic Medal

Each of these quilts earned a medal in my personal Olympic competitions.

One received GOLD, one SILVER and one BRONZE

Can you guess what each one received?

These 3 designs are ones that people often confuse with each other. I made them all from the same fabrics to explain the differences.

The top left is Sunshine And Shadows. The bottom left is Trip Around The World. The right quilt is Boston Commons.

What Will This Attempt At A Sock Become?

This was my attempt to knit a pair of Green Bay Packers socks.  My yarn and the gauge didn't work so I just put them away.

I now have a new use for this single sock with a little more knitting involved.  Stay tuned

What Quilts Are Ready To Bind

This quilt is the highest priority to bind when I complete the Olympics.
It will take a lot of time as it not only will need hand finished binding but will need 4 casings for slats to make it hang properly.
I already have a special spot to display it for maximum enjoyment.

What Will It Become?

This used to be a work in progress. It was not finished.

It is on the way to become something else.

It may take a while for the transformation.

Olympic Quilts In Progress

I am currently working on all three of these Olympic quilts at the same time.
Two have already been quilted and the other is layered ready to quilt.
Finishing after they are quilted often takes more time than quilting them.

Glitz Quilt On The Home Stretch

Another Olympic quilt is on the home stretch.

It's quite different than anything I've done before.

Olympic Quilt Using Hand Dyes With An Artist Printed Large Floral

I had a piece of my Shibori fabric and was able to combine it with this large floral I was gifted from an Artist.
I had to add a real ugly piece from my hand dyes, and when used in the borders it was no longer ugly.
I made this as my Olympic project a few years ago.

Silk Olympic Quilt In Progress

I am working on my Olympic quilts but wanted to share a little teaser before this one is finished.

There is nothing like silk to take color beautifully.

I'm on the home stretch for this one.

Olympic Quilts Become Pillows

This started out to be a quilt, but I realized it didn't have what it takes to be made into a quilt, but it did make a great Art pillow.

pillow quilt 2 2018
When it was turned into a perfectly stuffed pillow it became a Gold Medalist.

This Art pillow used some unique fabrics I created by dying, pressing and slashing.

Olympic Quilt 5 came out of the ice dyed reject pile and was quilted in a grid to make the save.

3 Pillows, 3 Gold Medals, all created with fabrics I pieced, painted, or otherwise changed.
They all were part of my Florida Olympics a few years ago.

A Challenging Quilt For Previous Olympics In The Past

This is one of the most challenging Olympic quilts I have made.

I came up with a way to do a six-pointed star simply.

I worked on and completed this at Hilton Head, South Carolina

Trip Around The World Quilt

I've also finished this Trip Around The World quilt.

I've used the same fabrics and colors I used for Sunshine and Shadows and Boston Commons.

Another Olympic Quilt Finish

Boston Commons is my most recent quilt finish.

I used the same colors and fabrics as I did in Sunshine And Shadows.

A Previous Olympic Quilt

This was a quilt I made in Florida for a previous Olympics.

Jessica and Kevin selected this Gold Medal quilt to add to their collection.

More Qualifying Quilts For My Personal Quilt Olympics

These are 2 more of the quilts that qualified for my personal Olympics.

They are the two largest.

I hope they will medal for me.

Squares And Circles

This was a fun quilt to create. I started with a base fabric left over from a previous quilt.
The circles give it a whimsical feeling.

Sunshine and Shadows

I've finished the first quilt in the groups of 11 I am currently working on.

It's a good feeling to add one more quilt to my finished list.

I love doing spiral quilting. This one was quite time consuming as the rounds are so close together.

Impromptu Design Wall

I like to put my works in progress in a spot that is visible to me when I am doing other things.

As I look at and study them I come up with the ideas I use to quilt them. Often the ideas change the more I see them.

This is working well for me.

Problem Quilt Top Resolved

I had major problems piecing this quilt top as you can see in the picture here.

I have resolved it and it is ready to be quilted.

Stay tuned, although it won't be finished right away.
