Ice Dyed Tapestries And Shibori Quilts-A View From The Windows

I have mentioned the gorgeous setting of the Anderson Arts Center on Lake Michigan in previous posts. Anyone who visits the center can not forget the great views out the windows that add to the ambience.

This view is from “Mrs. Anderson’s bedroom” on the second floor of the Anderson Arts Center. wouldn’t you love to wake up to this view of the lake every morning and watch the changing seasons?

This view is looking north at the Kemper Center which is now a county park. It was originally an Episcopalian girls boarding school. It now has many functions with banquet hall, a chapel and so much more.
As I write this post I can not forget the first visit to the Anderson Arts Center by someone who showed little interest in art. He was more than impressed with the show that was hanging at that time. But I’ll never forget his remark “I could live here!”
Who couldn’t live here if this were a private home and one had a staff to take care of it! But then you wouldn’t have all the art that is featured in the shows each year.

Journey To January 29, 2017

This morning my car was packed with my work for my ground breaking show Ice Tapestries and Shibori Quilts. This may not look like a lot, but it was arranged and layered to get everything there in perfect condition.

As soon as my grandson Jeff got done working he arrived to drive the quilts and me to the Anderson Arts Center.

When we arrived there my grandson in law Nate was there to help Jeff unload them and get them inside safely.

Candace had set up this room to be ready to receive the work. The floor coverings would keep things clean and she could view the work to decide where she would hang it for maximum impact.
I can’t wait to see how she displays things. I am also anxious to share this exhibition of the culmination of creating beautiful work for the last several years from white fabric and turning it into beautiful colors and designs with you to see.

Anderson Arts Center 20th Anniversary Juried Alumni Show

I was the only fiber artist to have work juried into this show.

My work is in the center and one the right. All the work in this particular gallery was black and white with a few touches of color on one piece.

I am not a skilled photographer and want to state that before you view the rest of this post.

The lighting of the work is first class. The Arts Center has fantastic windows that let in a lot of light. If I was a better photographer those things would not be a problem.

They allow the work to be shown in all it’s glory, but the photos I will be posting are not the greatest, even though the work itself is.

That said, let’s get on with the show!

“Girl’s Swim Team”  by Janet Roberts was an oil on vintage fabrics. I loved her work and have been drawn to it in previous shows at the AAC.

I guess you could call this piece another fiber piece but she is a painter rather than a fiber artist in my opinion.

“Team Guys”, an oil and mixed media is also by Janet Roberts.

“Wisconsinite Lackoon” by Michael Kutzer is an acrylic painting. There are so many things about this work that draw me in.

“Bullfrog’s Lullaby” is also by Michael Kutzer. Another favorite of mine.

This is a show I plan to visit again as there is so much wonderful art. I hope I have shared enough that you will get to see the show in person too.

Another chance to see Quilts: Another Dimension

FAMILY, FRIENDS AND QUILTS

A year ago today you had would have had only 10 more days to see my solo show along with 3 other solo shows - part of Quilts: Another Dimension.

All of my siblings, spouses, 2 cousins and my niece and nephew in law were present at the opening of the show. I was so happy they all were able to be there.



My son Greg, his wife Julie and their children drove down from Minnesota to see the show.


Sue lives the closest to the Anderson Arts Center, Suzie came all the way from Maine for the show opening and Sylvia lives in the county like I do.


Elaine was the first person through the door that I knew. Would you believe we met in Florida and yet she lives just miles from me in WI/IL? She was at my house in Florida last month for our get together with friends. We also celebrated her birthday and her sister in law's birthday that evening.


It was so good to see long time friends Tim and Mary.



Ellen and I go way back. We lived on the same floor of our college dormitory our freshman year.



Sheri, Donna, Geri and Marcia are part of my son's office staff. Their big smiles and pleasant personalities are one reason I don't mind going to his office.

June, Pam and Jamie and I had a nice lunch and then visited the show.

Joyce, Corrinne, Carolyn, Kay, Sue and Joan had a nice sociable lunch and then we all visited the show. I gave a little explanation of the show to the group.



My friend Joy and her husband Lyle also were there when I got there one afternoon.



Bonnie also happened to be at the show when I visited one day and It was so good to see here again.



I was so happy Barbara was able to visit the show when I was there.



It had been years since I had seen my friend Jill. I was so happy she happened to be visiting the show one day when I was there.


An important event even at Wrigley Field!

A time for reflection and anticipation

On this the last day of 2009 I like to reflect on the past year.
So many things have happened this year for which I am grateful.


Of course my solo show at the Anderson Arts Center in Kenosha was one of the highlights of my year. In this photo you see my siblings, their spouses, cousins and niece and nephew in law in front of The Colors Of My Life 20 - The Grand Finale in the series. This polymorphic quilt looks different depending on where you are standing when you look at it. There are 3 major views.

Once the show had opened it was time to head to Florida for a few months.

This quilt resides in Florida and it was the inspiration for my decorating scheme in the house.


When I am in Florida I have a mission! Ladies in Florida lunch and I put my efforts into this endeavor. Ladies in Florida also shop and I do my part there too!

March took me to Texas to a reception for Fiber Art for a Cause at Karey Bresenhan's Franch. A good time was had by all.

This was just the beginning of 2009 and there were many more adventures to come. If you'd like to see them you can just review my blog!

I am anticipating an even better year in 2010.

I'm Impressed - Look at the Gift Shop

I made my last preshow trip to the art center today. The show is hung and the gift shop is ready.
I'm waiting to share show photos until after the show is open. I am going to share many photos of the gift shop. It looks spectacular. Candace sets up the gift shop differently for each show. Of course this time it features a lot of quilts.
I have made all of these photos clickable so all you have to do is click on a photo and you can see a larger view.


Almost all the quilts in the gift shop are mine. I love the way they are displayed.

You'll find pottery, hats, and scarves here all made by artists from the area.

You would expect to find paintings at an art center and you won't be disappointed.

There are many wonderful baskets.


Many of you will appreciate the hand crafted wood bowls.

The small framed pieces are my work.

I hope you enjoyed seeing all those wonderful hand crafted items available to purchase. Every time I go to the Anderson Arts Center I buy something in the gift shop. I choose to do this rather than put a cash donation in the donation jar.
The Anderson Arts Center gets 40% of the sales price for each item sold. This gives them a larger donation than I would probably make as a cash donation in the jar. I also am impacting at least 3 people (or organizations) when I do this.

1. The Art Center gets income
2. The artist gets income
3. I get something wonderful to enjoy
4. If I buy something for a gift a 4th person benefits

When my grandchildren visit I give them each money to spend and explain the benefits to them.

The Art and Soul of Quilting 2006 at Anderson Art Center

I originated a juried national show at Anderson Arts Center called The Art and Soul of Quilting. It was held in 2004 and 2006. When I made the decision to spend part of the year in Florida the show no longer was held.
I'd like to share some photos from the show with you. Melody Johnson took these photos and posted them on her blog. She graciously is allowing me to share some of them with you tonight. This photo was taken in the east gallery and you can see our friend Tommy Fitzsimmon's quilt. You also can see the table with the appetizers and beverages. The Anderson does a first class reception for their shows.

This piece is by Sonji Hunt, one of the artists who will have a solo show as a part of Quilts: Another Dimension.

And here we have Sonji. She knows how to make an entrance!

Terry Haugen's "Let the Loveless Fade" won Best of Show.

Tonight's puzzle is another wonderful quilt from that show by Liz Berg. Unfortunately I don't have the name for this one. Can anyone help me?

Welcome to the Anderson Arts Center

Tonight I am going to share a few photos from my last solo show at the Anderson Arts Center. They will give you an idea of the scope and beauty of the building. It was built as a private home and never lived in by anyone but the family.

Upon entering the AAC you will go through the entrance and come directly into the main gallery. The main gallery featured many quilts I created from my hand dyed fabric.

You see the stairs in the second photo. Here you can see the art hung as you start to ascend the stairs.

As you ascended the stairs the art changed from black and white to color.

As you reached the landing at the top of the staircase it was all about color.













I hope it is obvious from these photos what a great venue this is to showcase art. I have been privileged to be part of several shows here in addition to my solo show. This is just a small portion of the Art Center. They host many shows there at the same time. There will be 5 solo shows making up Quilts: Another DImension. I hope you won't miss it.

"bricks" cut which seemed so appropriate for this puzzle.
