What Quilts Are Ready To Bind

 

This quilt is the highest priority to bind when I complete the Olympics.

 It will take a lot of time as it not only will need hand finished binding but will need 4 casings for slats to make it hang properly.

I already have a special spot to display it for maximum enjoyment.

My First Quilt Finish of 2022

I started this quilt only a little over 2 years ago.

I did spiral quilting on it which is one of my favorite ways to quilt.

It's a great feeling to have it finished.

Quilts Plus Color Returned To Blogging In 2021

This is the final quilt I completed in 2021.

After 15 months of not blogging I made a post on December 7, 2021.

I have not missed a day as I have a lot of catching up to do.

I started the year with 29 quilts on my list to finish,

12 quilts were finished.

The year ended with 26 quilts to finish.

If you are trying to figure out the mathematics here, don't!

There were quilts that never made it to my list as well as ones I started during the year.

Hope you are finishing 2021 on a positive note.

A Quilt I Built With Two Sets of Fabrics

 Often I just start sewing fabrics together and wait until the quilt tells me what it wants to be.

This was the way I designed this quilt which was finished a while ago, altough it is a time lapse quilt too.

This quilt was created with two groups of 8 hand dyed fabrics each. One group was mottled rainbow fabrics. The other groups was loosely 8 gray toned neutrals.

After sewing the strips together I sliced and diced and this is what happened.

Orange and Green Quilts

 Recently I shared this quilt on Facebook. It created a lot of interest and my friend Debby wanted to see the other quilt I made with the same fabrics.

I did find the companion quilt and I am sharing it here for Debby, myself and everyone.

I had a system to create both of these at the same time. But I can't for the life of me figure out how I did it. That is the way I work. I do NOT keep track of how I create my ART as I have no desire to repeat what I have done. Each new piece is a new adventure.

Double Digits

 

The hand quilting on this miniature quilt is amazing.

I drew the feather design that was hand quilted.

It also uses a variety of black fabrics to add texture and interest.

Ice Dyed Floral Quilt 3

This is the third quilt in the series I made from a gorgeous piece of my ice dyed fabric.
It is also the last as I used all the fabric. 
I used unique borders and quilting on this one.

A Favorite Vignette

I have a lot of favorites but today this is one of them.

I love to combine art that compliments other pieces. 

The two fused glass pieces were purchased over 10 years ago at an art fair. I have used them in many different places in our home.

The red vase was purchased from a medical fund raiser for an artist. I fell in love with it. 

I made Glory Aura after I had these pieces. I loved it and was lamenting I had no place to hang it in our house. When I measured this space it was perfect and worked so well with the other art.

The impact of using all these together was greater than using one or two alone.

Five Forever

Five Forever is the quilt I designed for the Quilters Express To Japan Hawks and Heroes Quilt Challenge.  It uses a specific group of fabrics designed by Susan Faeder. 
It won 1st Place and was exhibited at the prestigious Yokohama Quilt Festival. 
It was a challenging quilt to create. 
It is a piece of art that stands the test of time and is at home in any décor.
It is 54 inches wide and 67 inches long. It is available for purchase for $3900.

The Light Between

I needed a quilt to fill the space above the bed after we took the mirrors down.
I checked my list and had this top which needed quilting and was in Wisconsin.
My friend Geri went to my house, packaged it up and it arrived here in Florida a short time ago.

I didn't waste any time getting it quilted and ready for the wall.
We were able to get it hung on the wall yesterday. You may notice it is "a little" off center. I made some miscalculations for measurements and didn't even realize it was off until I saw this photo.

I just couldn't wait to share it with you and when I get a better photo and when we get it centered I'll repost it.

I am really happy with it in this space. I never make my art for specific spaces but somehow I always have something to use when I need something. 

2019 First Quilt

This is a quilt I started in November 2018 using a Box Quilt block I made in 1993. I expanded the block in a medallion format.
You can see the circular quilting I used on it.

I designed and taught a sampler quilt class and this was one of the extra blocks I made as a demonstration block to show students how to construct it.

New Quilt In Progress-Getting Interesting

I added pieced sections on each side of what has already been done. These were created for a vest I taught called Museum Vest. It was an original design. I made one complete vest and realized I didn’t need to complete another one. The colors were perfect for this composition I am creating and they were the perfect length. I only had to trim 2 inches from the bottom of each of them.
This is a totally new way for me to work to create a composition using vertical components.
I think I know what will come next but you will have to wait to see if it works.
It can be a challenge trying to work with units/blocks leftover from previous projects but it also is gratifying to be able to use them and make something beautiful.

New Quilt in Progress–One Step At A Time

I hang this on my design wall and then decide what will my next step be.
Part of my vision for this is to use leftovers from the other two projects.

This is a group of some of the possibilities. I am hoping this will reduce my fabrics in this bin!

I added a deep plum strip to frame the blocks you saw yesterday.
I do have an idea what will come next and I hope it will work.

New Quilt In Progress

I normally wait until a quilt is finished to share it.
I have decided to try something different with this one. I think many of you will be interested in following how I make this. It also may give you an idea of how to use some of your orphan blocks.
I have a lot of orphan blocks and scraps that have been begging to be made into a quilt.

This is the beginning of the quilt. I had these 7 plus a few more blocks left as demonstration samples when I taught a sampler class with these blocks. The blocks are 9 inches finished size.
I am putting them together with leftovers from another project, scraps from both projects, new fabrics and who knows what else.
I hope you’ll follow my progress as I create this unique quilt.

Shibori Tiffany Ice Glass

This is my current favorite quilt and it is also my newest.
I hung quite a few fabrics on my design wall for inspiration and the top panel and the center panel spoke to each other and invited the others along.
But before they invited the others they auditioned some others who didn’t make the cut. I’m happy with their choices and the design.
Each of these fabrics have been created over the last several years. Before they became the supporting fabrics at least two of them were ones I’d consider my uglies.
It’s always great to be able to figure out how to use some of my favorite fabrics in a composition.
This is 37 x 35.5 inches and is currently hanging in my studio gallery.  $1795 and free shipping within the continental United States.
As you know I create work with colors and designs that are at home anywhere and everywhere. Great ART doesn’t have to match the sofa, but it is OK if it does!

Size Doesn’t Matter–The Colors Of My Life

The first 7 pieces were included in Jinny Beyers book “Color Confidence”. Even though these had no relationship to anything I learned from her, they illustrated color in ways she shared in her classes.
When a quilting catalog advertised her book they showed it open to a page with MY quilts.
I was impressed when I saw how great they looked even when reduced to less than one inch.
And now for today’s enjoyment I am sharing more.

This one is a tessellation.

You may have a hard time seeing the shape in this one but it IS a tessellation. I purposely played with color and value.

This one uses shading and a “cutout” reverse to create a striking design.

This is an intersecting fields of color. The very first one in the series was also an intersecting fields of color but the colors and values have a very different f;pw here.
Although there are still 5 more I haven’t shown I won’t be showing them unless a whole lot of you beg me to do another post with the remaining 5.

I Am Sharing A Quilt Block I Designed With Corel

The color scheme for this one is very unique.

Here it is as a rectangle.


Here it is as a square.
Feel free to use the block but be sure you include my name as the designer of the block.

Another Corel Designed Quilt

I designed Rolling Logs with Corel Draw. 
I printed it on fabric in sections and sewed them together. 
It is 22 inches wide and 18 inches high
I fused fabrics onto the corner squares that were as close to the fills I used to design it.
It is in a private collection inherited by the niece of the original owner.

I can’t find a picture of the actual quilt at this time but it looks just like this!

Before The After Quilt

This is the quilt that was displaced when I hung the new one over the dresser.
I never tired of looking at it for the 13 years it hung there.
It was created from some not so big pieces of fabric I dye painted and then over painted with paint. I used almost every bit of the fabrics.
It uses a split complementary color scheme.
I designed it to have “color” weight at the bottom.
The grid was created from an even smaller piece of fabric using the color weight shifting from light in the center to darker at the edges.
The border fabric and binding had an even coloration which allowed the rest of the quilt to be the star of the show.

Rambling Rose

This is a time lapse quilt.
I made the background planning on it being a quilt and realized it didn’t work.
It was put aside until a new idea popped up.
I did some applique with an assortment of odd fabrics and then it was put aside again.
Eventually I finished the applique and quilted it. All that was left to do was finish it with a binding and put a casing on the back to hang it.
It is not unusual for a quilt to take over 10 years to tell me what it wants to be. When I listen the results are worth it.
