The 100 Fundraiser To Raise $10,000 In One Day

On February 4th we will raise $10,000 to bring the total we have donated to the American Cancer Society to $250,000 or ONE QUARTER OF A MILLION DOLLARS.

I am one of the artists who have been selected to donate work to this event.

Branching Out is the work I am donating. It is 8 x 10 inches. It was created by layering paints, dyes, and stitching to create a finished work which will share something new with you each time you look at it.

I will share more details and information about this fund raiser as the date approaches. 

On February 4, the first 100 people to contact me (Virginia(at)VirginiaSpiegel.com) beginning at 10 a.m. Central will be given a link to donate $100 by credit card directly to the American Cancer Society through Fiberart For A Cause.

2. Each donor will receive an artwork from one of the 100 generous and talented artists. Assignments of artwork will be made using a random number generator by someone other than me. Artwork will not be shared here in advance, but may appear on artists' websites or other social media before the event.

Small World Quilt Story!

This year I donated a piece of my art to the Fiber 5K Run For Cancer.
Anyone anywhere in this whole country could have won this piece.
Imagine my surprise when my friend Peggy who lives in the same community I do was the winner of it.
Peggy was the very first quilter I met here and I consider myself lucky to call her a friend.
I am so happy she won this.
In case you haven’t heard, we raised over $5000 in 7 hours this year for the American Cancer Society. This is an addition to the $250,000 we have already raised through our various fiber fund raisers.
It is one of my favorite charities that I support.

Fiber 5K To Fight Cancer Will Be Here In 4 More Days!

 

Mark your calendar for January 15, 2014 and join me as I run the Fiber 5K to Fight Cancer. OK, I won't actually be jogging around a race course. But I will be joining the fun as Fiberart For A Cause's virtual race kicks off with a goal of donating $5000 directly to the American Cancer Society.
Generous Prize Sponsors for drawings means there will be many winners at the 1K ($1000) mark, 2K ($2000) mark, etc., plus a Grand Prize drawing when we cross the Finish Line.

According to Race Director, Virginia Spiegel, "Fiberart For A Cause likes to have fun while raising money to fight cancer, so, of course, there are going to be more "race" details revealed as January 15 draws closer. 100% of donations are given directly to the American Cancer Society through Fiberart For A Cause. Fiberart For A Cause has already donated more than $230,000 to the American Cancer Society thanks to the generosity of fiber artists and patrons."

 

I don’t think there is anyone who has not been affected by this disease.

I have supported this since the first post card fund raiser and it seems each and every time we raise funds someone else I know is fighting the fight.

 

I know we are making progress against this disease as I just received a message from a young man tonight who has been fighting the fight for over 3 years and although he has been through a lot of challenges I expect him to win the fight and kick Cancer’s butt.

 

I’ve been the “Official Cheerleader” to make and surpass our goals and I hope we kick it up and notch and raise far more than our 5K goal!

 

This year I am donating an 8 1/2” x 11” piece of my Fiber Art. I hope YOU are the winner.

I’m Getting Ready To Run A 5K Race

A time for reflection and anticipation

On this the last day of 2009 I like to reflect on the past year.
So many things have happened this year for which I am grateful.


Of course my solo show at the Anderson Arts Center in Kenosha was one of the highlights of my year. In this photo you see my siblings, their spouses, cousins and niece and nephew in law in front of The Colors Of My Life 20 - The Grand Finale in the series. This polymorphic quilt looks different depending on where you are standing when you look at it. There are 3 major views.

Once the show had opened it was time to head to Florida for a few months.

This quilt resides in Florida and it was the inspiration for my decorating scheme in the house.


When I am in Florida I have a mission! Ladies in Florida lunch and I put my efforts into this endeavor. Ladies in Florida also shop and I do my part there too!

March took me to Texas to a reception for Fiber Art for a Cause at Karey Bresenhan's Franch. A good time was had by all.

This was just the beginning of 2009 and there were many more adventures to come. If you'd like to see them you can just review my blog!

I am anticipating an even better year in 2010.

The Colors Of My Life continued

The Colors of My Life 7 was the first quilt I designed on the design wall when my studio was completed. It is a variation of an intersecting field of color quilt. I moved the colors across the quilt in various ways. The one obvious movement is the green which goes from dark at the outside to light at the center. This created luminescence. When you do a quilt with this many variations of a color you can't have too much fabric. You may only use a few squares of each fabric but you need certain values, shades and colors.

This is a close up so you can see the quilting. You can click it to enlarge it as you can all my photos on this blog. I used a curved line to emphasize the movement in this composition. The quilting was done without marking.


You have seen The Colors Of My Life 8 and 9 before. When I designed these quilts I was playing with the color theory that warm colors advance and cool colors recede.
I made the cool colors advance in the second quilt by putting them in front of the warm colors.

Tonight's puzzle is a postcard I made for the very first Fiber Art For A Cause Fund Raiser. I love crazy quilts so made this crazy quilt with hand dyed fabric and a lot of stitching where the patches joined each other. The images you see are made from polymer clay that I imbedded into the fabric.

Did you miss me? I missed you!

That's what I used to say to my grandchildren when I traveled.
Sometimes their answer was "We didn't even know you were gone" or "Yes, we missed you" or "Did you bring us something?"
I know some of you know where I was because you were there too!
I was in Texas at a reception for Virginia Spiegel and Carol Moore, artists in residence for February at Karey Bresenhan's Franch, or the Great Expectations Creativity Center.
It was a great reception where I was able to see friends, meet new people and meet cyber friends in person. You'll be hearing more about it and seeing some more of the 160 photos I took.

This is the front of the Texas Size postcard I made for Karey. Fiber Art for a Cause started with regular size postcards that were sold on line to raise money for the American Cancer Society. This project was started by Virginia Spiegel. Karey was the Honorary Chairperson but she has done so much more than an "honorary" chairperson. You can click on the photos to see a larger view of each of them.

In an email exchange with Karey she mentioned Lyle Lovitt's song "That's Right - Texas Wants You Anyway". That gave me the idea to include titles of Texas songs on the background of the card. My 3000 best friends on Quilt Art helped with suggestions of their favorite Texas songs.


Here is the back of the post card. It is about 8 x 12 inches. To date over $165,000 has been raised for the American Cancer Society through Fiberart for a Cause. Before it concludes in 2009 the goal is to have raised $200,000. I am sure we will make that happen.
