Fiber Postcards, Postcards And More Postcards

I want to share a lot of the postcards I've been mailing out recently.

Ever since the Red Hat Ladies came to my house to make fabric postcards I have been making whimsical and humorous fabric postcards.

This shows even more of the cards I have made. I have sent most of these to friends and family.

It is fun to pick out a special card and send it to an unsuspecting friend.

I have a few left to send, but I have been making more as the need arises. Unfortunately when I make one at a time they often do not get documented to share with you.

I have quite a collection of novelty fabrics to do this with. I bought a great selection in the quilt shop in Florida and already had a large collection here.

They are quicker and easier than the art post cards I have made in the past. I seldom do any sewing on them - it's all fusing.

Postcards for Friends

These 3 cards are a story. The "hunk" was leftover from the Red Hat Ladies postcard night. They didn't know what to do with partial "hunk" photos!
I did and the series was delivered to a friend on 3 consecutive days!

The big one that didn't get away!

This is from the fairy tale about the black bear who fell head first in a tub of bleach and came out brown.

This "Honest Injun" vouches for everything I say!

I know my friends shake their heads and laugh when I send these cards.

Fiber Postcards

All of these postcards were ones I made and sent to my youngest grandson. I hope he is enjoying receiving them.

Of course I have to send a flamingo from Florida.

I asked him if the robins are back in Wisconsin yet.

And I also asked him if there are cardinals in his yard.

His favorite color is green so when I found this fish fabric with a green background I had to make a card with it.

One of his favorite Christmas presents was his Gator Golf game so that is why I made this one to send him.

What boy doesn't like Superman?

It is so much fun to make these. I have acquired quite a collection of novelty fabrics while on this journey. Since these are for a child I have made them quite simple with little other than the novelty fabrics. Occasionally I fuse something else onto them.

I also do ones that are slightly more complex for older children and adults. They can be an inside joke, or the idea can come from something someone may say.

Fragments - My Week In Pieces

I'm taking a break today from the Tessellation Tutorial series to share a few things from the week.

It's been a good week - and I've accomplished a lot - and so have some other people!

You do remember me talking about the BIG Potato Chip quilt my friend Kay Webb was making, don't you?

She has made great progress on it. It will be a bed sized quilt.

This is what she had to say about it this morning:

The quilt currently is 102 in x 55 in. It’s not there yet. I like it because it resembles what I think a grandmother would do, back in the day. That is just add strips of whatever, whenever there was time.
It is not the right size yet, and it’s at a point where I can hear one of my professor saying, ok, push it…………….so I am going to push it, to get it THERE………..LOL more pictures will come.

She is a very busy lady, and yet she is accomplishing great things. I can't wait to see more.

Thursday I met my long time friend Sally for lunch one more time before I head north.
We met at B D Beans, one of my favorite places for lunch, but also convenient for each of us as almost a half way point between where we each live.

Guess this must be a friend of Sally's!

This is what the temperature on my car thermometer registered when we left B D Beans!

It has been in the mid 90's everyday recently. Yesterday it rained, something we always need. It cooled down and I was able to enjoy breakfast on the lanai.

I've also been making more postcards. I am having so much fun.

I forgot to take photos of most of them I have already sent. If I show some I haven't sent yet, it could spoil the fun for the recipients.

I sent this one after the Kentucky Derby.

Often friends will make a comment which gives me an idea for a card I will make and send to them.

These cards are not Art Cards. They are Fiber Cards made from quilting cottons. I had some in my fabric collection that started me down this trail. We are fortunate to have a wonderful quilt shop about 3 miles from here. They have a broad array of fabrics. They also have a fantastic collection of novelty fabrics and it necessitated a trip there this week to add to my collection.

I think I've make close to 50 already. And to think, this started when I invited the Red Hat group to my home to make post cards. Who'd a thought!

Oh, The Stories We Can Tell - More Fiber Postcards

As I took the time to look at each person's postcards, I was not only impressed with the variety, I also was impressed with the creativity shown, as well as the stories one could tell from the cards they created.

We seldom see a robin here, so this could be about that???

I watched as the lady who created this one took her time.
When I asked about the finished card I said to her I saw a story. She then explained the entire story to me and it was so much fun.

What a fun whimsical design, and I guarantee you the creator of this one was having fun as she designed it!

When I look at this I see an oriental Monet garden.

The fine detail in this card is amazing.

I wonder if the creator or the recipient of this card sews?

I see a collection of jewels when I look at this.

When I look at this I think Kentucky Derby since it will be taking place this Saturday. Then I also see the Horse Racing Game we play with our card group.

Of course we need golf cards since we are surrounded by golf courses.

The variety makes these all the more interesting.
I think I have included one card from each participant, but if I missed someone I hope they will let me know.

Many of these were designed for specific recipients. I am sure they will be thrilled when they recieve them.

I took some time today to make a few cards. I will share them at a later date after the recipients recieve them.

Red Hat Ladies Make Fiber Post Cards

I invited the Ladies from our Red Hat Group to come to my house tonight for a Craft Night.
They did now know what they were going to be doing. Everyone really enjoyed the evening.

They each brought an appetizer and it was BYOB.

They are having a great time and hard at work designing special cards.

I am going to share a few of the cards with you.

Can you imagine the story you could tell with this card?

I'll have more cards to share tomorrow. I am exhausted and ready for sleep.

You can see the whole group and all the cards they made on the table.

Fiber Art Postcards

I want to share some of the Fiber Art postcards I have made. I continue to make them for special friends but I often forget to take a picture of them.

Rosy Future 1 is made with fabric I painted, stamped and stitched. It is in a private collection as are all of these.

Rosy Future 2 is the second in this series. It has the added threads and a jelly bead.

Hill Country is created entirely with commercial fabrics. You can put a stamp on these and mail them without an envelope with the same stamp you would put on a first class letter.

Night Bloom was made from the same collection of commercial fabrics. These are so much fun to create.
These can be framed in a standard 4 x 6 inch commercial frame. There are frames with any number of openings depending on how many cards you have to frame.

Crazy For You features gradations of hand dyed fabrics. The patterned areas are polymer clay which was placed on the fabric and run through the Pasta Machine which imbeds the clay into the fabric. They are baked after they are married with the fabrics. The seams are finished with decorative stitches.

My Rosy Future postcard is your puzzle today.
