Sacred Spirits

From time to time I rerun one of my most popular blog posts. This one was one of the top ten in the almost 10 years I have been blogging.

This is the largest and most exciting Ice Tapestry I have created for my solo show.
It is 43 x 89 inches.
My ice dyed compositions use my own methods I have created by trial and error. Each one is different.
These are ART ice dyes, not production ice dyes.

I doubt you can see the entire piece at once on your screen so I will add a smaller version here:

I hope you can see it all here, even though you get to see a lot more detail on the larger version.
When pieces get this long it is a challenge to photograph them. So you will have to visit my show to really appreciate this and also all the others.
I plan on showing it in my 2018 show in Florida in March and April. I will share details about the show soon.

Another Beautiful Millennium Quilt Went Home

Dana was in town today so she stopped to pick up her Millennium quilt. Of course we had to take her picture too.
She brought her little brother Caleb along and when it was time for me to click the picture he was my helper and told her when to smile!
She is the only one of my grandchildren you has made several quilts, even with her busy schedule as she finishes her education.
Each of the older 8 grandchildren has had an opportunity to learn to quilt and sew with me.

Another Millennium Quilt Goes Home

My grandson Jeff is now old enough to treat his quilt with the care it deserves.
He was only 7 when I made it and he hardly remembered it.

Each of the Millennium quilts I made for my 8 grandchildren had 2000 different squares of fabric.
The blocks were similar but not identical. A lot of the fabrics came from trading with about 500 different people all around the world. I would stack 8 similar fabrics as I made the 25 patch blocks. If I was using my own fabrics then there would be 8 identical fabrics in a stack.
I then designed each one on my design wall in my studio. The borders are Jinny Beyer Millennium fabric. Each one had a different colored border, although some of the cousins had the same border as there were less than 8 different border fabrics.

My Morning Walk

If you follow me on Facebook you may be aware that my morning walk is a way to view my house with new eyes.
This morning I saw something that needed to be changed.

This is the after picture. I didn’t take a before one. I had some of my red souvenir glass collection on the middle shelf. This is not a lighted cabinet so the souvenir glass didn’t show up.
I had a few Hummels in another cabinet so I moved them into this one.
I also made some other changes to the cabinet where the Hummels had been.
This is the extent of my Hummel collection as I have passed the rest down to my family.

What Size Hydrangeas?

My son Jeff has a green thumb! He brought me these giant hydrangeas recently.



He saw the ones I had picked from my yard and his put mine to shame. In my defense I have to say mine are a miniature variety and this is a lot bigger than they originally were!

Years ago I too had a green thumb but life got in the way and now I share it with him and my grandson Nicholas who plants a really big garden.
