Circle Inset Quilt - Quilting Process - Secondary Quilting Design

After a false start on another idea I came up with this design to finalize the quilting on this quilt.

This is a closeup (that can be enlarged by clicking on it) that should show the quilting in more detail.

I took this photo with the light coming from the side so you could see the hills and valleys created by the quilting.

When I design a quilting pattern I try to consider several things:

1. It should enhance the design already created by the quilt design.

2. If possible it should be relatively easy to quilt with few starts and stops.

3. If it is necessary to do a more complex design which is more difficult to quilt and has a lot of starts and stops to complement the quilt design then I do that.

I was able to do a quilting design on this that was relatively easy to accomplish and that also complemented the design of the quilt.

Considering these things can create a perfectly married quilt and quilting design.

Beautiful! Looks like a large quilt - what machine do you quilt with? (I have such a tough time bundling quilts into the little space in my machine.)

the quilt is 42 x 42 inches so it fits easily under the machine. the design also was only one direction using a walking foot.

But on the other hand I have done a quilt as large as 118 x 118 inches on my sewing machine. I use a Janome 8000 or a Viking Designer 1.
