Symphony In Black And White

image

I am revisiting the black and white fabrics I dyed this season. I love to arrange them and see how they play together.

This group also has interesting textures with closer values.

I love these textures. There is also a value gradation going on when I put these three pieces together.

Whether I choose to use these pieces in a black and white quilt or whether I add other colors I know I am going to come up with a beautiful symphony.

Although, I usually work in many colors, I appreciate black and white compositions and learn a lot about value importance from studying them. Your fabrics and design are very interesting.

I love the black and white gradations. Is that last piece a snow/ice dyed piece? I love the patterns created in shibori tieing and rubberbands. So very nice!

I've recently completed five major pieces with hand dyed black and white cloth. My biggest problem was getting very deep blacks and keeping the whites sparkling..the interesting things happened when the gradations were quick and limited. I actually wound up appliqueing strong blacks and whites over some places to pump up he contrast..here is a link to the series: http://morewgalo.blogspot.com/p/b-w.html

I love your black and white fabric. What black dye did you use? I really like the black that you got in your pieces.

I love your B/W fabrics. I've made a few B/W quilts but usually add a pop of red to them.
