What Is So Special About Red And White Quilts?

There is something so appealing and crisp about red and white quilts. They are the second most popular color combination in quilts. Blue and white quilts are the most popular.

I changed the red to magenta and they are not nearly as appealing.

Next I changed it to turquoise and they are still not as attractive.

Even in blue and white, the most popular color combination for quilts, these quilts are not as effective.

Do you agree with me? What is your favorite color combination for a two color quilt?

I have just added this black and white version of the quilts. Thank you for sending it to me Dinaa Feit. I can always count on you.

And last, but not least I was able to change them to green!

I like this little experiment in colors! I'd probably answer black and white for my favorite two color quilt but I'd like to see your photo done in black and white before I commit to my answer!

I also love the graphic qualities of black and white quilts.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to make the change to black and white with this photo.
It could be that I don't have enough knowledge to do it, or it could be the qualities of the photo.

I think primary colors and black have the most drama when paired with white. i really think the blue has as much impact as the red in your photos although I prefer red as a color in my life.

Blue and white is my favorite combination every time! I think I like my blue a little more cobalt or indigo, though. Not quite as bright as your modified picture. But I'm a loyal blue fan -- I pick blue every time.

I was able to post a black and white version for Gina.

Also Jo wanted to see it in green and white and I was able to also do that.

This comparism is a very clear evidence. It is more than a habit or tradition! There is a reason why quilters -- and embroiderers -- haven't grown tired of red on white.

You are a hoot.... the purple is striking.... but for now I am so conditioned to the red and white exhibit I like it best !

I have never considered a two color quilt.... I like a lot of fabrics and thus color... now shut my mouth.... just remembered a brown and orange quilt I made,,,, but I don't think that is a two color quilt..... that is a Fall quilt, LOL
