XXI Olympics Closing Ceremony

Congratulations neighbor for a job well done.

You welcomed the world with your open arms.

It sent chills down my spine as I watched the closing ceremonies you produced.
It was a thrill to see the pride in your country by the audience. The energy in the stadium was electric - among both the spectators and the athletes.
Your closing ceremony was to me what the Olympics is all about.
The entrance of the athletes from the various countries made me smile, cry and have pride in the athletes.

What fresh faced happy athletes who we can hold up as role models for our youth.

From Alexandre Bilodeau first gold medal for your country, I cheered for your athletes along with those from the United States.
You thrilled us as you defeated us in hockey. What a game!

You were the ultimate host to the world.

I will fondly remember this Olympics for the rest of my life.

O Canada I salute you and I am glad you are our neighbor.

The games were wonderful and the sea of red and white was overwhelming. My youngest son was there the first week and came home with wonderful photos. Almost the whole country watched the hockey game and we are all united in being proud of the accomplishments of the athletes.
Thank you for your kind words.

Thank you for the support. It is greatly appreciated. I was so proud of our Canadian athletes and of the athletes from around the world - the vast majority of whom showed such marvelous sportsmanship and camaraderie. I was proud of those athletes who, win or lose were able to show such grace and good world citizenship.

These Olympics were indeed a proud moment in our Canadian history!

First, Kay, let me say that I look at your blog everyday.....it is so interesting.
Thank you so much for your kind words about the Olympics. Canadians seem so laid back compared to our American counterparts when it comes to patriotism but the 2010 Olympics awakened the hidden pride that we have in this Great Country. Did you know that the young (happy) flagbearer you pictured lost her Mother on the first weekend but went on to compete and win a bronze medal? Her Mother died shortly after she arrived in Vancouver to watch her daughter skate and never got to even see her. Joannie Rochette has become our newest national hero.
All of the athletes did their best and are to be congratulated ..... It must be difficult to practise so hard and lose.
Thanks again for your support of the Olympics .......the British and Russians haven't been so generous. It is now their turn to make the next games better!!!!!

Thank you for visiting each day Marilyn. I'm so happy you're here.
Yes, I did know that Joannie had lost her Mom. I cheered harder for her than any other athlete at the Olympics. I cried after she performed and am shedding tears for her right now. I was on line with a friend and we both were shedding tears both of sorrow and happiness for her.
What a testament to the sacrifices her Mom made so that she became all that she could be.
I am sure her Mom was looking down on her and saw her performance.
Canada has set the bar high as an Olympic host and it is my hope too that other countries will follow.

Kay, thanks so much for the great blog and the Olympic inspiration!
My husband and I just got back from the Vancouver Winter Olympics. This was our honeymoon trip -- a vacation of a lifetime. The trip exceeded my expectations in every way -- the city, the venues, the athletes, the weather, the people, the food -- nothing could have been better!
And the colors -- athletes in yellows and reds and blues against a backdrop of teal and blue and green and white -- I was so inspired. I have been quilting for only a year, and I can't wait to get back to the sewing machine.

You are welcome.
What a fantastic experience - a perfect beginning for your life together.
You got to see in person everything the rest of us only saw on TV.
If you make any quilts inspired by the Olympics I'd LOVE to see them.
